Downtown Before Sundown
Downtown Before Sundown was created for Der Nister by Aaron Castillo-White as part of an ongoing effort to imagine new forms of Jewish culture, encourage creativity, and offer a bit of levity during challenging times. At its heart, the game transforms a familiar Los Angeles frustration, trying to cross the city before Shabbos, into an opportunity for shared experience to anyone who drives here. By inviting players to navigate traffic, anxiety, and improbable shortcuts through play, it reminds us that culture is something we actively create together and that in spite of all life's many challenges, we can still laugh a little...
There is an old saying often rendered as a curse: “May you live in interesting times.” While the world has provided no shortage of interesting times lately, this game is rooted in a different wish: May your imagination provide you with good ones. Have fun and may you have the Takhlis to make it to Der Nister for Shabbos!
